Kieron Pollard | Mumbai Indians vs. Rajasthan Royals | 2014

Pollard is a hulk at fielding, with his 6 feet 5 inches height and 220 pounds weight. And so, without a doubt, he marks first position in our list of top 7 catches in IPL history.

It was a match against Rajasthan Royals on Monday 2014 when Kieron made this record for being the best catcher in the IPL history. Pollard was bowling against Kevon Cooper and when Kevon hit the bowl fiercely to probably pass it across the field, Pollard had some other plans. His sensational over boundary catch redefined fielding in the world of cricket. He’s well-known for his over the fence fielding abilities.

Chris Lynn | Kolkata Knight Riders vs. Royal Challengers Bangalore | 2014

Another best catch of IPL history was witnessed in the same IPL season 2014 by the Australian cricketer Chris Lynn. It was when Chris was playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders and he did a catch against RCB’s AB de Villiers.

Pulling hard towards the boundary, it was an easy 4 for the Ab, most likely because Chris lost his balance at the moment. But, he managed to balance himself and arched his back straight at the right moment catching the ball mid-way in the air. No doubt, it was a breathtaking moment for the fans.

AB de Villiers | Royal Challengers Bangalore vs. Sunrisers Hyderabad | 2018

AB de Villiers though most famously known for his most fearsome power-hitting abilities. But, he’s a brilliant fielder as well, and that he proved in one of his history-making catches of IPL season 2018.

It was when Ab was fielding against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Alex Hales pulled a short ball towards him. AB was caught into action timely, he ran across the field on his right, jumped, and plucked the ball from the air, as it was just that easy. It was a brilliant catch and the team celebrated with joy.

Ajinkya Rahaney | Rajasthan Royals vs. Pune Warriors India | 2012

It was a brilliant show of team play when both Johan Botha and Ajinkya Rahaney of the Rajasthan Royals made a catch that is worth remembering in IPL history. Their presence of mind and action-reaction game at the right moment helped them to dismiss Rahul Sharma of the Pune Warriors.

Ajinkya ran 20 yards from the long-on to collect the ball from Johan Botha at the long-off boundary. Though later, Ajinkya got the credit for the catch. But, it was mostly Johan’s effort. All in all, this catch was a brilliant show understanding the game in the moments.

Jofra Archer | Rajasthan Royals vs. Mumbai Indians | 2020

No doubt, this is the most unbelievable catch in our list of best IPL catches. This happened during the IPL 2020 when Jofra was fielding against Mumbai Indians. It was when the MI’s Ishan hit the ball towards the boundary and Jofra misjudged the ball’s flight.

It started to run towards the inner field. So, it seemed like an easy route for the ball to go outside the boundary. But, an uncomprehensible event happened and Jofra started to run back towards the boundary before he jumped and stretched his right arm in the air and the ball got stuck in his hand. Perfect, right?

Ricky Pontings | Mumbai Indians vs. Delhi Daredevils | 2013

During IPL 2013, then 40 years old Ricky Ponting took one of the best catches in IPL history. Ricky was leading Mumbai Indians against Delhi Daredevils and the DC team had to chase down a target of 209 runs. The match started with the first ball of Harbhajan Singh against DC’s Unmukt Chand.

Unmukt following a safe start hit the ball towards the vacant part of the offside. But suddenly, Ricky sprang from the inches across and carefully pouched the ball single-handedly_ his signature style. Ricky is famous for his fielding since the beginning of his career and it was brilliant proof of that.

Faf du Plessis | Chennai Super Kings vs. Mumbai Indians | 2015

Faf du is a pride of CSK and is a very committed fielder. He’ll chase the ball anyways and there’s rarely a chance of him losing a catch. He made a great show of fielding abilities during the IPL season 2015 when caught a ball from the MI’s power-packed Corey Anderson.

Corey was being delivered a ball from Ashish Nehra which he straight off sent high for probably a six. But, in the presence of Faf du in the ball’s route, it wasn’t just possible.

Faf du first ran towards the ball and then, he immediately understood his mistake and started running backward following the balls towards the boundary, before he jumped backwards and took a great catch at the right moment.
